Grapefruit diet plan

I laugh when I look at the grapefruit diet plans available on the internet. Ever website that I have found so far has the same diet plan. What makes it even worse funnier is that there is only one day worth of plan. Does that mean that dieters have to eat the same things for 12 days? This is another factor that makes me think that the “grapefruit diet” is really just a fad. Much better to simply add a few grapefruit to our diets each week in an effort to move towards healthy nutrient dense foods and away from high calorie nutrient barren foods. That said, for completeness I shall outline the common grapefruit diet plan below.

Breakfast:

  • 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. of unsweetened grapefruit juice
  • 2 eggs prepared any way you choose
  • 2 slices of bacon

Lunch:

  • 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. of unsweetened grapefruit juice
  • Meat or fish, any kind (unlimited quantity)
  • salad

Dinner:

  • 1/2 grapefruit OR 8 oz. of unsweetened grapefruit juice
  • Meat or fish, any kind (unlimited quantity)
  • Cooked vegetables or salad

Supper:

  • 8oz. glass of fruit juice or 8 oz cup of skimmed milk

As you can see from the diet plan above it would get boring fairly quickly. Even though the “grapefruit diet” only lasts for 12 days I am sure most of us would be only too happy to come off this diet. It could potentially be damaging to our willingness to eat grapefruit through getting sick of it from having some at every meal for 12 days.

Instead of this grapefruit diet plan would it not be better to have grapefruit for breakfast once a week? Or perhaps as a starter for dinner? Doing it this way has the advantage of preventing us from getting tired of eating grapefruit and also that we do not have to change our whole diet for 12 days. We can endeavor to improve our diet on a daily basis. Increasing the amount of fruit we consume is just one of the ways.

Grapefruit are good for our health and we do not need to go on the “grapefruit diet” to get some of the health benefits. They are high in fiber which is beneficial for preventing us from getting constipation. A whole pink grapefruit has roughly 76 calories which is pretty low and is a good food to consider if you are counting calories. On top of this they are also a great source of both vitamin A and C.

The grapefruit diet plan above may be of interest to you but of more interest to me is simply eating healthy foods each and every day of my life.
